Image Source: londonperfectIn less than a week I will be in London to witness first hand the entertainment, excitement, inspiration, emotion and human drama that is the Olympics.

In my upcoming book – Winners & Losers: Rants, Riffs & Reflections on the World of Sports – I catalogue many pilgrimages to sporting cathedrals and notable events within the U.S. and around the world. Being there matters. And being at an Olympics is hard to beat.

In the past, I have gotten a perverse kick out of having a great time at an Olympics, only to read in the press the next day what a miserable time I and everyone else are supposed to be having.

So it may be with London. The gloom and doom predictions have started, but they will shortly be conquered by the thrill of seeing the competition unfold before our very eyes. Keep one of those eyes out for my regular reports on the actual sights, sounds and memorable moments from these Olympics.
